Alabama general information
Montgomery served as the first capital of the Confederate States of America; Jefferson Davis
was inaugurated on the steps of the Capitol. In 1910, Montgomery became the winter home of
the Wright brothers' Wright Flying School, and the Wright Brothers began producing planes
for the U. S. military.
Huntsville is the home of the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, and Space Camp.
Mobile has good antebellum examples of Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, Italianate, and Creole
Cottages. Follow the signs and take a tour.
Fort Morgan is a fort at the mouth of Mobile
Bay, Alabama. Construction was completed in 1834, and in the American Civil War during the
Battle of Mobile Bay, Union land forces besieged Fort Morgan. The commander of the fort was
forced to surrender on August 23, 1864. Fort Morgan was designated a National Historic
Landmark in 1960.

Memorial Park.
