Probably the most recognized advertising sign in the world is "Coca-Cola".
The World of Coca-Cola is a permanent exhibition featuring the history of The Coca-Cola
Company and its well-known advertising as well as a host of entertainment areas and
attractions. It is located at Pemberton Place, in Atlanta.
The first Coca-Cola recipe was invented in Covington, Georgia, by John Stith Pemberton,
originally as a cocawine called Pemberton's French Wine Coca in 1885. He may have been
inspired by the formidable success of European Angelo Mariani's cocawine, Vin Mariani.
In 1885, when Atlanta and Fulton County passed Prohibition legislation, Pemberton responded
by developing Coca-Cola, essentially a carbonated, non-alcoholic version of French Wine
Cola.[3] The beverage was named Coca-Cola because, originally, the stimulant mixed in the
beverage was coca leaves from South America, which the drug cocaine is derived from. In
addition, the drink was flavored using kola nuts, also acting as the beverage's source of
caffeine. Coca-Cola was bought out by businessman Asa Griggs Candler, whose marketing
tactics led Coke to its dominance of the world soft drink market throughout the 20th
century.
Stone Mountain is a granite dome monadnock located in Stone Mountain, Georgia, a suburb of
Atlanta. At its summit, the elevation is 1,683 feet, and is more than five miles in
circumference at its base. Stone Mountain is said to be the largest exposed granite 'stone'
in the world, with the largest bas-relief in the world. Three figures of the Confederate
States of America are carved there: Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, and Jefferson Davis.
Savannah's downtown area is the largest National Historic Landmark District in the United
States. Ride in a carriage for a tour of Savannah, look for a sign in the City Market.
